The Thirty-seven Practices Of A Bodhisattva
and Dorje Sempa Empowerment
We are very happy to welcome Gyalton Rinpoche back to Ireland once again. During his visit, Rinpoche will lead a retreat based on The Thirty-seven Practices of a Bodhisattva and will also transmit Dorje Sempa Empowerment.
“This text is very dear to me as it was the first teaching I received on Buddhism. I received it from the living Buddha, my Guru, Tai Situ Pa Rinpoche. The Thirty-seven Practices of a Bodhsattva turned my life around and lit the fire of hope in my heart. Its practical nature provides gems of wisdom to help us to live a meaningful life that is of benefit to oneself and others.”
Ani Chodron. Palpung Ireland.
The Bodhisattva’s path is often referred to as the path of heroes. It includes the intention, training and practice aimed at enlightenment that is not only for ourselves, but for all beings. The Thirty-seven Practices of a Bodhisattva is one of the most beloved and popular texts on this noble subject. It maps out the entire path of the Bodhisattva; from the moment we make the commitment to set out on this hero’s journey until we realize enlightenment. With its profoundly compassionate understanding of cyclic existence and the problems we encounter along the way, The Thirty-seven Practices helps us work directly with our worldly desires and fears. Practical and easy to follow, this short text is totally suitable for beginners as well as for more experienced practitioners.

DORJE SEMPA EMPOWERMENT

Dorje Sempa manifests the purity of Buddha Nature. The power of Dorje Sempa is to heal and purify all sentient beings. Participating in the transmission of Dorje Sempa Empowerment allows the possibility of connecting to that Perfect Nature and empowers us to do the practice, which includes the visualization and mantra recitation. In purifying the causes and conditions of our physical, mental and emotional illness and suffering, Dorje Sempa practice loosens our rigid clinging to self and allows our Bodhisttva aspiration to blossom.

About Gyalton Rinpoche:
“Rinpoche” is a title given to an incarnate lama; someone who is beyond the cycle of rebirth, but who chooses, as a Bodhsattva, to be born in order to help all beings. The present Gyalton Rinpoche was born in 1980 in Sikkim, India. He was recognized in 1983 and subsequently enthroned by Guru Vajradhara, the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situ Pa, under whose guidance he began his formal,  monastic education at Palpung Sherabling. As well as reading, writing and Tibetan grammar, Gyalton Rinpoche studied the ritual texts and learnt the art of making tormas (butter sculptures), sand mandalas, rituals and lama dances.  He then attended a regular school, followed by university where he majored in science subjects and learnt a number of languages incuding English, Hindi and Nepali. Upon his return to Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat, Gyalton Rinpoche was appointed Vajra Master and presided over religious activities. In the following years, he studied Buddhist philosophy and received numerous teachings, oral transmissions, instructions and empowerments from Guru Vajradhara the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situ Pa, including the profound Mahamudra meditation transmission in 2010. Since completing his traditional three years retreat in 2014, Gyalton Rinpoche has been transmitting the Buddhadharma at Palpung affiliated Buddhist centres around the world. As one of the main Rinpoches at Palpung Sherabling, he also conducts ceremonies as the representative of Guru Vajradhara the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situ Pa.
